Series of presentations on communication skills teaching practices by FOR21 Programme Countries Universities

Series of presentations on communication skills teaching practices was organized by each Programme country university within the framework of the project. The sessions were as follows:

University of Leeds

Date: April 12, 2021

During the online meeting, Dr. Rob Lane made a detailed presentation on teaching practices of communication skills at the University of Leeds based on years’ experience of teaching practice and scientifically based curriculum development. Dr. Catrionna Dennis made an overview of the communication skills MBChB, giving details on curriculum, communication skills topics and learning objectives.  

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Date: May 26, 2021

Dr. Manolis Smirnakis made a presentation on Soft Skills and Communication

Skills at the Undergraduate Curriculum of the AUTH Medical School. The presentation included an overview of the curriculum, introduction to the soft and communication skills and detailed presentation of two clinical scenarios teaching communication skills to students. 

University of Oulu

Date: June 16, 2021

Prof. Petri Kulmala made an overview on communication skills teaching at the University of Oulu including presentation on how to tell bad news to the patient/guardians and giving an example of mixed teaching methods. Prof. Juha Auvinen made a practical overview on communication skills teaching in general medicine. Dr. Eva Braidwood made an overview on doctor-patient consultation in the Medical English course.

The information presented to the Partner Countries Universities at the meetings received a very positive feedback from the attendees. PCUs academic staff received very valuable additional knowledge and had all their questions answered.
