Implementation of the Erasmus+ FOR21 project. Fostering the doctor of the 21st century: education for patient-centered communication in KazNMU.

On May 11, 2023, at the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, the staff of the Communication Skills Department and the Center for Communication Skills of KazNMU held the IX International Annual Scientific and Practical Conference “Actual problems of communication skills, psychology and social work in medicine: from theory to practice.”

As part of the dissemination of the results and sustainable development, the coordinator of the Erasmus + FOR21 project for KazNMU Yusupov Rustam Rakhimovich (Almaty, Kazakhstan, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Microbiology, Virology, KazNMU) made a presentation on “Implementation of Erasmus+FOR21 project “Fostering the doctor of the 21st century: education for patient-centered communication in KazNMU”.

Dr. Yusupov presented goals and objectives of the project, principles and educational methodologies that contribute to the formation of the basic and advanced skills of successful doctor-to-patient communication.

Using the examples of the “virtual patient” and “standardized patient” (VP / SP) cases, the work has shown how important it is for doctors – practical healthcare professionals – to know and appropriately apply effective communication skills that increase patient confidence, and contributes to obtaining a complete and reliable history of the disease, forms good relationship, contributes to the correct diagnosis and further adherence to all doctor’s prescriptions and recommendations.

The conference was attended by scientists, universities’ teaching staff, practical psychologists, social workers, heads of healthcare organizations, doctoral students and undergraduates.

The working languages of the conference were Kazakh, Russian, English.
